Let me just start by saying that this book is such an interesting read.
This story follows Daphne and Julien. Daphne is part of the Society and gets to travel in time for different missions. For her newest mission she goes back in time to the 1920’s. Here she meets Julien, a man who is part of one of the most powerful families in Paris.
I generally enjoy stories that contain time travel but the thing that made this story especially good is the attention to the small details. While reading you learn how it was to live in Paris around that time. You will read about common customs and cultural facts, how Daphne finds similarities and differences in past and present Paris and you can feel like you were actually there with her.
The main characters read as very real people. They are not the ‘perfect’ person, they all have their own personalities with positive and negative qualities. They make mistakes and they try to do what they think is best.
I liked that this is one of those books that you just don’t want to put down. Every time you think things have slowed down a bit, something happens again and it will lead the story in a different direction than what you might have expected. The ending in particular got me curious to read what will happen in the next book.
In conclusion, I recommend this book. Especially if you like stories that take place in the past and have a hint of time travel in it
